Sumo Sole Gen 5
thin and lightweight

Minimalist Footwear

WIDE TOE BOX
Room for your toes to splay and actively grip the floor. Improves balance and increases your ability to generate force and leg drive.

ZERO HEEL-TO-TOE DROP
The sole is perfectly flat, with no heel-to-toe drop, and no unnecessary underfoot cushioning that could compromise stability.

SLIPPER CONSTRUCTION
SSG5 forgoes bulky materials and padding, instead opting for a lightweight knit with laser-cut ventilation. Breathable and comfortable, but structured where it matters.

Sumo Sole Gen 5
Ultra-Thin Performance

Novus™ 3.0 Grip Tech

Our newest outsole is 2mm thin, with a 1.8mm tread depth. The total stack height of only 3.8mm makes Sumo Sole Gen 5 the thinnest powerlifting slipper on the market.

Constructed using a proprietary custom-formulated high-friction rubber compound, Sumo Sole Gen 5 provides unmatched grip on all surfaces, for all lifts.

SSG5 upgrades from the Novus™ 2.0 compound used in Gen 4 — a newer formulation engineered for improved grip and longer wear life.

Sumo Sole Gen 5

a true barefoot experience

Crafted with a flexible outsole, this slipper moves seamlessly with your foot, promoting natural biomechanics that enhance stability, improve power transfer, and strengthen key muscles for lifting.

Featuring our proprietary Novus™ Griptech Rubber Compound, it delivers exceptional traction while maintaining the perfect balance of durability, flexibility, stability, and ground feel.

Direct sensory feedback from the floor tells you exactly where your weight is distributed. No midsole foam filtering what your foot feels. Every micro-shift in a squat or deadlift registers instantly, allowing for immediate self-adjustment.

Sumo Sole Gen 5 — Frequently Asked Questions

Sumo Sole Gen 5 features an anatomically shaped wide EE toe box that allows maximal foot flare in the sumo stance, dual adjustable straps for lockdown without compression, and a 3.8mm sole with Novus™ 3.0 rubber for unparalleled ground feel and traction. This combination improves stability and power off the floor in wide-stance pulls.

Deadlift slippers are ultra‑low, non‑compressible footwear designed to get you as close to the floor as possible while still giving you grip and stability. Sumo Sole Gen 5 takes that idea and adds serious traction, side‑to‑side support, and a locked‑in upper so you get barefoot‑level bar efficiency without sliding or rolling when you push the floor away.

Yes. Sumo Sole Gen 5 is built around wide, grippy outsole coverage and a thin, flat platform, which works for both sumo and conventional. Most lifters pick them for sumo first, but a lot of people end up pulling conventional and even doing accessories in them because the ground feel and grip are hard to beat.

Yes, but it depends on your technique. SSG5 is excellent for low-bar squatters who prefer a flat shoe, and for strength athletes with sufficient ankle mobility. If you need heel elevation for upright squatting, choose Ronin Lifters.

The two independent Velcro straps let you customize fit across the midfoot and forefoot separately. This eliminates the binder-clip effect of single-strap slippers — you can secure your foot without compressing the toes, maintaining circulation during heavy pulls.

Yes. Sumo Sole Gen 5 meets all major federation rules for powerlifting and strongman competition where flat-soled footwear is permitted, including IPF approval. The shoe is approved for use in the IPF, USPA, USAWA, and other major federations. Always verify your specific federation's rulebook before competition, but Sumo Sole Gen 5 is built to standard for any federation that allows deadlift slippers.

The knit upper will minimally relax after several wears, but the dual straps ensure a consistent, adjustable fit throughout the shoe's life. SSG5 does not stretch significantly in length — choose your size carefully using our sizing guide.

Three targeted upgrades. Gen 5 moves from Gen 4's Novus™ 2.0 outsole to Novus™ 3.0 — a newer compound that delivers 15% greater grip and 10% greater durability compared to the original Novus™ outsole. The heel counter switches from faux-leather to a thinner, sleeker TPU for a cleaner profile and better response. The knit upper now features laser-cut ventilation for improved airflow. The sole geometry, dual-strap system, EE toe box, and 3.8mm stack height remain unchanged.

Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Gently scrub soiled areas with a soft brush, rinse thoroughly, and air-dry. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the straps and knit may degrade. Avoid harsh chemicals that could break down the outsole bonding.

Yes. Most strength athletes wear high socks for hygiene and added shin protection during deadlifts.

With regular use (3–4 sessions weekly), expect 12–24 months before the outsole shows significant wear. Novus™ 3.0 is a newer compound with improved grip and durability characteristics. The knit upper is reinforced at high-stress points for long-term wear.

Most powerlifting slippers share a basic flat sole. The differentiators are sole thickness, toe box geometry, outsole compound, and midfoot lockdown. Sumo Sole Gen 5 runs at 3.8mm total stack height — the lowest available — with a wide EE toe box that gives your toes room to engage the floor without restriction. The dual-strap system secures the midfoot independently from the forefoot, which single-strap designs cannot replicate. The Novus™ 3.0 outsole is a proprietary rubber compound engineered for grip and durability on any surface. IPF and USAPL approved for competition.

Flat shoes like Converse are a big step up from running shoes, but they still add extra stack height and a softer, less grippy sole. Sumo Sole sits much closer to the floor, uses a stickier outsole, and is designed specifically for heavy deadlifts, so you get less range of motion, better traction, and a more stable base when you wedge and drive.

Customers praised this powerlifting shoe for "great traction" and support during squats and deadlifts. The wide toe box provides excellent comfort, and shoppers noted "my feet can really feel the floor." However, sizing runs large—customers recommend sizing down. Overall highly rated for fit and style.

The design is good and the sole is great

I love the Japanese style pattern and the upgrade of sole is significant from Gen 2 which I was using, I feel so much better on doing both my squat and deadlift. The price is fair and the logistics is so fast to Hong Kong.

Best deadlift shoes I’ve tried

Best deadlift shoes I’ve tried. They’re a bit expensive when ordered from the EU, but worth the money if you’re serious about powerlifting.

Sumo Sole Gen 5 🖤

I picked up the Sumo Sole Gen 5 because I wanted a grippy, minimal deadlift shoe with plenty of space for my wide feet because I have intense bunions.

My first lift with the shoe was on a PR day and I couldn’t be happier with them. They feel almost like they aren’t there. Didn’t notice any difference in the height because they’re so thin. They were stable but allowed my foot to expand naturally and they provided so much grip on the platform.

Even if you pull conventional like I do these are near perfect shoes for deadlifts.

Comfortable From Day One

These shoes have been great for powerlifting so far. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and feel very stable during training. I was able to wear them right out of the box with no issues, and they’ve held up well through my workouts. The fit is comfortable without feeling bulky, and they provide a solid connection to the floor for lifting. So far, they seem durable and well-made. I’m very happy with this purchase and would recommend them to anyone looking for a comfortable, reliable lifting shoe. 💪🏽🏋🏽‍♀️

I love the wide tow box as it allows for tripod foot and it grips the platform so your feet don’t slide.

Worth it

Got a pair of the ghost color of the sumo Sole gen 5. They look very nice and comfortable . Sizing was a bit on the bigger size but will manage with thicker socks. Will definitely buy another pair and size down . I usually wear Eur46 and got size US12.

Great shoe for sumo deadlift!

I recently started pulling sumo instead of conventional and I had been wearing converse for the longest time. I tried maxing out and my converse were just sliding. These are my first pair of actual lifting shoes but they have made all my lifts significantly better! The grip on the bottom is amazing, I don’t slide at all and the toe box is wide enough that it doesn’t feel like it’s squeezing my foot. I’ve been wearing them for squats too and they make me feel really stable. Definitely recommend

Sumo Sol Gen 4: Year of the Horse

I absolutely love notorious lift shoes! I’ve always only used this brand. When I saw these Sumo Sol Gen 4 Year of the Horse, I just had to have them! They are in my favorite colors & I am the year of the horse so it was just so fitting, no questions asked, it was a must have! Let me add that they are incredibly comfortable & the grip does not fail with my squats, bench press & deadlifts. What’s better than a shoe that provides you style, comfort & stability. Can’t go wrong with these. It also comes with its own shoe bag which is perfect because I change into them when I get in the gym & change out of them before I leave the gym. Highly recommend.

Best Budget lifting shoes

Bought one for last change discount.
Outer is significantly stiffer than the Gen3 ver.
I have 259cm feet with wide toe box and Gen4 EU41 fits just perfect.
I have to put a tiny tiny pressure to get them on but after wearing them it is just perfect.
