Sumo Sole Gen 4 - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What makes Sumo Sole Gen 4 ideal for sumo deadlifts?

Sumo Sole Gen 4 features an anatomically shaped wide toe box that allows maximal foot flare in the sumo stance, dual adjustable straps for lockdown without compression, and a 3.8mm thin sole for unparalleled ground feel. This combination improves stability and power off the floor in wide‑stance pulls.

Can I squat in Sumo Sole Gen 4?

Yes, but it depends on your technique. Sumo Sole Gen 4 is excellent for low‑bar squatters who prefer a flat shoe, and for lifters with ankle mobility that doesn’t require a heel. If you need heel elevation for upright squatting, choose Ronin Lifters.

How does the dual‑strap system work?

The two independent Velcro straps allow you to customize fit across the midfoot and forefoot separately. This prevents the “binder‑clip” effect of single‑strap slippers—you can secure your foot without squeezing the toes, maintaining circulation during heavy pulls.

Are Sumo Sole Gen 4 shoes federation‑approved?

Yes. Sumo Sole Gen 4 meets all federation requirements for powerlifting and strongman where flat‑soled footwear is permitted. They are approved for use in IPF, USAPL, USPA, PA, and all other federations globally.

Do Sumo Sole Gen 4 shoes stretch over time?

The engineered knit upper will minimally relax after several wears, but the straps ensure consistent fit throughout the shoe’s life. They do not stretch significantly in length, so choose your size carefully using our measurement guide.

Can I wear Sumo Sole Gen 4 for conventional deadlifts?

Absolutely. The 3.3mm sole and grippy outsole provide excellent floor contact for conventional pulls. Many lifters prefer the wide toe box even for conventional stance—it allows the feet to grip the floor more actively.

How do I clean my Sumo Sole Gen 4 slippers?

Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent, gently scrub soiled areas, rinse thoroughly, and air‑dry. Do not machine wash or dry—the straps and knit may degrade. Avoid harsh chemicals that could break down the adhesive bonding.

What’s the difference between Gen 4 and previous Sumo Sole versions?

Gen 4 features a refined toe‑box shape (wider at the metatarsals, tapered at the heel), updated knit material that’s more durable and breathable than Gen 3, and a significantly upgraded sole with Novus™ 3.0 griptech rubber for improved grip performance and stability.

Should I wear socks with Sumo Sole Gen 4?

Yes. Most lifters wear high socks for hygiene and added protection for the shins during deadlifts.

How long do Sumo Sole Gen 4 slippers typically last?

With regular powerlifting use (deadlifts, squats , bench press 3‑4 times weekly), expect anywhere between 12‑24 months of service before the outsole shows significant wear or the straps lose adhesion. The knit upper is reinforced at high‑stress points for durability.
